DIY: Ombre rhinestone earrings!

happy almost new year!

Almost. And by almost I mean tomorrow is New Year's Eve. And by that I mean I'm going to have to dress up and look classy and wear jewelry. Seriously, what's that about? Anyhow, that means only one thing: it's earring-making time!

I've had these pink rhinestones sitting around for a couple months. I got them in an attempt to replace the missing rhinestones on my favorite cocktail ring, but they weren't the right size and I've been trying to think of something to do with them ever since. Well I finally thought of this!

Instructions:
You will need:
small rhinestones of any color
thick fabric
2 earring hooks
silver wire
scissors
glue
black Sharpie

1. cut the fabric into the shape you want the earrings to be. I chose a teardrop, but feel free to try something more creative!

2. glue the rhinestones onto the fabric, covering as much of it as possible.

start like this...

...end up like this!

3. color over the rhinestones with a Sharpie, beginning at the bottom of the earrings. Color about three-quarters of the way to the top of the earring. Then, using a rag you're willing to ruin, rub off the Sharpie from the rhinestones to create the ombre effect.
before and after:

4. use the silver wire to attach the fabric to the earring hooks and voila!

I love the way the black and pink look together. And they're so shiny too! Well, enjoy the new year and the new earrings!

Holiday Nails!

happy holidays!

Well if there's one thing I enjoy when I have some spare time it's doing my nails. And of course the festive holidays season calls for festive nails! But one small problem: I have this thing with purple nail polish. As in, I only own purple nail polish because every time I buy cosmetics there always seems to be a new color of purple nail polish I just have to have and then what do you know I have about fifteen different kinds of it. So I figured I might as well put some of that purple polish to good use.

The base coat is this fabulous iridescent grayish mauve that I bought from the Gap quite a few years ago. I've been trying to find another bottle, or at least something similar, for ages but the closest I've found is OPI for Sephora nail color in Sin-cerely Violet. I painted a sparkly purple topcoat that I bought in Mexico (see what I mean about buying purple nail polish everywhere?) over one side. The color is similar to to this one from Forever 21.

I'm hoping that purple can work for the holiday season because, well.....that's about all I've got! But I think it turned out looking pretty good. I'm sure the combination of a lighter base coat and glitter topcoat would work with all sorts of colors. Enjoy!

DIY Inspiration: Happy Holidays!

hello darlings!

Well we all know the holidays are coming up, and that means I finally have a little time that's free from schoolwork. And that means two things: spending time with my family (hooray!) and DIY-ing. The excitement abounds!

Anyhow, I've been exploring the vast recesses of the internet and found myself a number of quick DIY ideas for the holidays. Enjoy!

An Introduction

Hello world!

My name is Chloe. This is a bit of an experiment for me, as I've never really had a blog before, but I figured that now is as good a time as any to give it a try. Enjoy!

And now, a quick About Me:
I'm a college student.
I just moved to Los Angeles from Seattle.
I like to make my own clothes, or at least glue glitter all over them.
I'm almost 5'1" (or alternatively I'm 5'7" in six inch heels).
No it's not my real hair color.
Yes I do know what I'm wearing is ridiculous. That was the point.

Be back soon!
